Are you searching for success which has, so far, eluded you? Well, you are not alone… according to several sources, something like 95% of network marketers are searching too! But you don’t have to be a member of that group!

It was around 1980 that I acquired a cassette tape entitled “The Power of Goal Setting” by Paul J. Meyer. I was so taken by the goal setting concept that I joined Paul Meyer’s company, Success Motivation Institute, as a distributor. I did manage to work myself up to becoming a member of the President’s Honor Club but I didn’t feel that I had reached the level of success that I wanted. In fact, I felt that I had barely scratched the surface of my full potential!

The whole concept of goal setting was new and quite mysterious to me and I had a lot of unanswered questions. In those days, we were marketing “physical programs” that included written lessons, workbooks and cassette tapes along with a cassette recorder… all contained in a fancy travel case. The information contained was almost incidental!

Today, with the Internet, we can market just the ideas and information without the packaging and have it delivered instantly anywhere in the world… what a difference! It’s the ideas and information that contain the value, not the packaging. And that’s where my passion lies… helping people believe in themselves and giving them the tools to turn their dreams into reality!

Goal setting, when done correctly, is a process which trains the mind to aid us in producing the results we are seeking. This makes the process far easier than trying to do it by brute force. We learn that goals need to be written and specific and include deadlines to have maximum effect. The most successful people have specific written goals!

Paul Meyer gives us the following definition of success: “Success is the progressive realization of worthwhile, predetermined personal goals.” This tells us that goals are a required component of any plans for success and it is my mission as a success coach to offer training and support to aid this quest.

If I have by now convinced you to at least “dip your toe” into the waters of goal setting, I highly recommend “The Ultimate Goals Program” by Brian Tracy. Brian has trained over 2,000,000 students on these principles so he has definitely established his credibility. Brian states: “Your life only begins to become a great life when you clearly identify what it is that you want, make a plan to achieve it and then work on that plan every single day.”

As a young Structural Engineer/College Professor my dream was to design beautiful bridges. Following 15 years of teaching engineering principles to college students and earning advanced degrees, I moved my family to Maryland to take a position with J.E. Greiner Engineering, one of the top bridge design firms in the country. They were just finishing work on the second span of the William Preston Lane Jr. Suspension Bridge spanning the Chesapeake Bay.

Thus began a relationship with an engineering structure for many people who could now enjoy the convenience of easy travel to the Eastern Shore on weekends. And just like our human bodies, a bridge, after it is opened, cannot be forgotten but needs constant upkeep and maintenance to assure that it continues to give safe and reliable service for many years. Yes, bridges age just like people and proper care is essential to assure they live long useful lives!

I spent a summer studying fatigue cracks in one of the anchorages of the original bridge, the result of millions of cycles of high stress in the summers as the bridge carried maximum loads with the many travelers bent on getting away to their ocean retreats on weekends. Just like bridges, our bodies can also suffer from fatigue when subjected to all the challenges of modern life.

Now that I am retired from engineering work, network marketing gives me the opportunity to apply some of the same concepts to helping people become more beautiful. Along with the external beauty… periodic painting in the case of bridges and cosmetic treatments for people, is the internal maintenance required and that means effectively managing stress in the case of both bridges and people to assure long useful healthy lives.

Network Marketing, for me, is a highly effective way to enhance and beautify the lives of many people by supplying them with the very best personal care and maintenance products.

We may call ourselves entrepreneurs, but the question I am really asking is: Do you have the mindset of an entrepreneur?

The reason for the question is to give you one of the keys to becoming a successful entrepreneur! So, how do we know whether or not we have an entrepreneurial mindset?

I just watched a very interesting and enlightening video by Cameron Herold entitled:Raising Kids to Be Entrepreneurs . Watching the video gave me a clear understanding of the difference in mindset between an entrepreneur and a run-of-the-mill employee. According to Cameron, our schools are set up to train employees and actually discourage or stifle any signs of entrepreneurial behavior.

The same message is conveyed by Robert Kiyosaki in his wonderful Rich Dad Poor Dad series of books. I believe that they should be required reading for anyone who calls himself/herself an entrepreneur. It is essential that you understand how money works differently for those who are highly successful than it does for the majority who just get by.

One of the essential mindset qualities of an entrepreneur is courage to make things happen. In his latest book The Business of the 21st Century, Robert Kiyosaki states:

It takes courage to discover, develop and donate your genius to the world.

Your mind is infinite. It’s your doubts that are limiting.

The book is about the importance of having your own business as the best way to overcome the economic hard times faced by the majority. “If you want wealth, you need to create it. You need to take charge of your future by taking control of your income source– today!”

So, learn what the rich know about money that the poor and middle class are never taught, then take action and you will be well on your way to becoming a successful (and rich) entrepreneur!

Do you ever wish you had more time, money, or other resources? If only you had all those things, you believe, you could make all your dreams come true. Alas, you don’t, and so, year after year, your dreams stay just that: dreams.

But it doesn’t have to be like that. In his book, Master Your Mind, Adam Khoo argues that all those perceived limitations are just illusions. The fact is, he writes, we all have everything we need to be successful. We just need to learn how to put it to use. And in this book, he teaches exactly how it’s done.

He starts with the premise that we all have basically the same neurological make-up. We all have roughly the same 1,000 billion neurons in our brains. It’s what we make of them that makes the difference.

So how is it that some people are able to accomplish so much with their 1,000 billion nerve cells, and others accomplish zilch? Adam argues that the key to those differences lies in the behaviors and habits that get installed while we grow up. The majority of people are not exactly brought up with a winning mindset. And unfortunately, most of those people never question what they do and never change their habits. It probably never occurs to them that they could. But of course we CAN change habits, behaviors and beliefs by stimulating our brains in the right way and creating new mental patterns.

The technology Adam uses to reprogram the mind is NLP, i.e., Neuro Linguistic Programming, which has proven to be highly effective at that task. And after carefully reading it, I found that Master Your Mind is not just another book on NLP, useful as that may be, but it actually goes far beyond that.

First of all, Adam’s Master Your Mind offers a comprehensive, thorough, and easy-to-follow description of the actual techniques that are necessary to accomplish that goal. But it doesn’t stop there. It’s also an extensive workbook that helps the reader to put all those techniques to use right away. Thirdly, it offers a wealth of inspiring examples.

Adam Khoo himself is a case in point. Starting out as an academically weak student at the very bottom of the pile, he used some of those very strategies he teaches here to reprogram himself and turn himself into a top student. Moreover, unlike his fellow students who were satisfied with a normal career path and income come graduation, he set himself the goal to become a millionaire by age 26 – and achieved it.

He started his first business while still in high school, and several more while in college, and he even became a best-selling author with his book on how to become an excellent student. He developed a program called Patterns of Excellence that he used to teach others to repattern their mind to achieve success as well.

So Adam is quite an inspiration indeed. And he provides us with many more inspirational examples throughout the book, from Sylvester Stallone to Richard Branson.

From the outset, Adam urges us to have the right mindset: And one of the key parts of that mindset is planning for success by setting specific goals, developing strategies to achieve those goals, and putting them into action.

Of course, if you do enough challenging things, some of them will not work out as planned, which is something most people call “failure” and try to avoid at all cost. Adam, however, argues that there’s no such thing really. What may seem like failure is just feedback, and that attitude is essential for achieving any goal because paying attention to feedback helps us stay or get back on the right track and accomplish our goals.

He also introduces two more essential ingredients: an empowering belief system, and the right kinds of values. He doesn’t leave it at that, but provides plenty of specifics and work sheets that help his readers to establish those for themselves.

Next, Adam takes away our excuses! He urges us to stop playing the victim. Instead, he shows that taking absolute responsibility for everything that happens in your life is the key to self-empowerment. Which, by the way, does NOT mean blaming yourself. Far from it. Instead, it means that when something doesn’t go according to plan, you ask yourself what YOU can do to turn things around. Whether it’s customers that won’t buy or colleagues that are uncooperative, reclaim your power to change things. And the only person whose actions you really have control over is you.

And so, this is what it means that you can only change what you take responsibility for. If you believe something is out of your control, how could you possibly do something about it?

Adam takes it even further: not only does he challenge his readers to take responsibility for their results, but also for how they feel. This book is not for whiners but for people who are prepared to do serious work on themselves.

And in keeping with that, each chapter features exercises and action questions that guide the reader through that work that will, as the book promises, help them master their mind.

Among the key aspects of Adam’s mind mastery program are beliefs and how to take control of them and turn them into the kind that will get results. He calls them the “tap to our personal potential” and provides evidence that they can even change our biochemistry.

Once again, that section is followed by an extensive workbook section where you can track down any limiting beliefs and change them into empowering ones.

And that’s just for starters. Adam goes on to provide detailed instructions on how to achieve key performance by gaining control of your emotional states. There’s a long section on successful modeling, one of the key concepts of NLP and a key tool for achieving success.

Next, a detailed chapter on how to manage your brain, with how to take control of all the aspects of your perception and imagination, by manipulating its submodalities, along with instructions on associating and disassociating. While I’ve read about these before, I’ve never seen them treated so clearly and in this much detail. Once again, it comes with detailed workbook so you can actually do it and not just read about it.

Of course, the techniques for manipulating submodalities and emotional states serve a purpose, to motivate yourself, to overcome procrastination, to remove intense negative emotions and change them into neutral ones, to change cravings to disgust, and much more.

He even shows how to use the swish pattern technique to change lifelong habits almost instantly, including how to move from hitting the snooze button and going right back to sleep to jumping out of bed with enthusiasm as soon as the alarm goes off.

There’s more, including a detailed section on anchoring, both on setting anchors for desired states of mind, and on removing unwanted anchors, and another section on meaning.

All in all, this is a very comprehensive program on mastering one’s mind, and anyone who does all the exercises can hardly help but feeling profoundly changed.

Any drawbacks? Master Your Mind, with its 364 pages, is really long for an ebook, and it’s been a bit of a pain to read on the small screen of my ibook, what with having to scroll up and down all the time. But it was so worth it that I didn’t mind anymore once I got into it. Besides, if you have a bigger screen, that shouldn’t be an issue anyway. And, of course, you can always print it out.

Feel limited by a lack of education?

This post is directed to anyone who feels limited by a lack or shortage of formal education. It’s not your diplomas and degrees that matter… it’s your internal prosperity consciousness, also referred to as mindset, that holds the key!

Actually, this will benefit anyone who desires to improve their results in building long term relationships and accumulating wealth. I present the following true life story to reinforce the idea that it is not formal education that holds the key but it’s the way that we relate to the world that will bring us the success we seek.

Millionaire Grandfather

Dave Schuster (1905 – 1995) was a poor Russian immigrant who successfully built and sold several businesses in the US with NO marketing budget and NO formal education past the fifth grade. He also happened to be the grandfather of Debbie Bermont, a highly successful author and marketing expert. As she tells the story:

My grandfather became an entrepreneur at the age of 11. He built businesses through World War One, World War Two, the depression era and saw at least 8 cycles of economic upheaval in his lifetime. And he still built a multi-million dollar empire over the course of his lifetime with only a fifth grade education. Even though my grandfather came from a very poor family of Russian immigrants he always had an amazing outlook on life. It was never about surviving. It was about being exceptional.

What was the secret of this man’s success? How could anyone be that successful with only a 5th grade education? I would like to explore some of the possible reasons.

First off, our formal schooling is only the foundation for what needs to be a lifelong educational process. It will give us a few tools and, hopefully, teach us how to learn and create a thirst for knowledge, but it is certainly not the end of our learning. Actually, it’s only the beginning. Having a quest for knowledge and being able to find answers on one’s own is far more valuable than having a formal education.

In fact, many of the most successful people have been self taught. And, these days, with the rapid advances in technology and the media , anyone who is relying solely on their school training will be left hopelessly behind.

Debbie elaborates further:

He was a wise man, my grandfather. I took to heart all the wisdom he imparted in building a business and I discovered how to use his solid business principles and add my own wisdom on alignment to create true acceleration.

To help us understand how her Grandfather could have been so successful with only a 5th grade education, Debbie lists five ingredients that her Grandfather included in the recipe that enabled him to turn individual connections into lifetime relationships. Debbie elaborates them in her book.

Ingredient #1 Trust

Trust is something that has to be earned… it cannot be bought, sold or expected. Trust is based on the state of mind of reliability over a period of time. And it must be consistent which means that it is a state of mind. Profitable lifetime relationships are built on a foundation of trust.

Ingredient #2 Heart

It’s all about making lifelong heartfelt connections with people who are your business associates whether they be customers, employees or suppliers.

Ingredient #3 Appreciation

Ingredient #4 Creativity

Debbie’s Grandfather would regularly come up with ideas for new businesses, creative financing or ways to improve an existing business. Along with the ideas was the initiative to implement them.

What does eating a live frog have

to do with social media marketing?

When it comes to getting the right things done for our social media marketing business, Brian Tracy has given us some great suggestions in his wonderful little book, Eat That Frog!

The premise is that if we start each day with our most challenging task, symbolized by eating a live frog, our results will improve dramatically.

The book is based on over thirty years of time management study, so the ideas are definitely worth paying attention to and better still… implementing.

Brian’s learning process was simple… find out what other successful people do and do the same things until you get the same results. Learn from the experts.

The big success killer is procrastination and Brian offers 21 ways to beat the killer and get more done in less time. I’ll just give you just the first one… you’ll have to read the book for the other 20.

The Key to Great Success!

Brian’s key to great success is this: “The ability to concentrate single-mindedly on your most important task, to do it well and to finish it completely.”

He points out that you will never have time to do everything you have to do, therefore it is essential to pick the most important tasks and get those done first.

Suggestion Number 1 Brian labels, “Set the Table.” By this he means decide exactly what you want and make a plan. He emphasizes the importance of having written goals with deadlines and that you do something every day that moves you closer to your major goal.

You must be absolutely clear in your mind as to what you want to accomplish and have the confidence and singleness of purpose to do what you need to do according to your plan.

Learning a Musical Instrument

As an aside, I have taught myself to play at least half a dozen musical instruments, some quite well, and my method was simple: I would play something every day!

I did not set a time because, some days, the available time might be short. But each and every day before my head could touch the pillow, I would pick up the instrument I was working on at the time and play something.

And the system paid off… I never considered it to be work because it was always enjoyable but the important thing was learning and applying the self-discipline to do what needed to be done consistently.

Now Learn The Other 20 Ways!

It’s a small investment that will pay huge returns over and over if put into practice by creating new success habits that will lead to the satisfaction of goals accomplished!
